Aleph Bet

LANGUAGE

Narrow Way, revealed through the Hebrew Letters

Real life came first

If you would ask me: "How Aleph Bet became a language revealing Christ for you?" My shortest answer would be: It simply grew out of my real life.

Long before I became a believer, life was difficult. After I came to Christ, many things were still difficult. I was not searching for a project or trying to build a ministry. Most of the time I was simply trying to understand what was happening around me and how to keep walking without losing heart.

As I read the Scriptures, I saw the same pattern again and again. God met people right in the middle of their difficult circumstances. He did not wait until everything was settled. He revealed Himself there, in the middle of fear, failure, waiting, conflict, and uncertainty. That changed the way I read the Bible. I no longer wanted only to understand what a passage meant. I wanted to understand how Christ meets us in the realities we actually face every day.

The Hebrew Letters

Around that time I began learning Hebrew. I was fascinated by the language, especially by its root structure. I discovered that words growing from the same root belong together and share an inner connection. One day I bought a Hebrew root dictionary and decided to make an experiment. I took the first Hebrew letter, Aleph, and wrote down a whole page of seemingly random words. The only thing they had in common was that every one of them began with the same root letter. I simply wanted to see where it would lead.

As I looked at those words together, the story came at me like a wave.

Yes, I wrote the story. But to say it more truthfully, I discovered it. The Lord allowed me to discover a story that was already hidden within the root structure of the language. That discovery changed everything. I continued the same experiment with the next letter, and then the next. Every time another story unfolded. It took years to write them all, but every one of them came in the same way.

At that time my own three sons were all growing through their teenage years. Without planning it, every story became the story of a young man stepping into the complicated world of adults. Each one faces a different conflict. Toward the end of the story another person enters. Sometimes it is a father, sometimes a mother, a teacher, a doctor, a policeman, or simply a stranger. That encounter brings the whole situation into the light of Scripture, and the answer grows out of God's Word. Although the stories are written like parables and almost entirely through the Old Testament, every detail ultimately points to Christ.

From the story to a song

Some time later the Lord surprised me again.

As I was sketching the Hebrew letters, I suddenly saw movement within their shapes. I was no longer looking only at written characters. Every letter suggested movement. I began bringing those movements into my own life, and little by little they developed into simple sets of exercises for each letter. As I lived with them, I realized that every set of movements corresponded to a particular aspect of our walk with God. They were never mystical or symbolic for their own sake. They simply became another way of expressing what each letter was already revealing.

Years later, when the Lord led me to begin writing my own songs, another piece fell into place. Every letter gradually received its own song. Those songs became declarations of faith growing out of the same truths that were already unfolding through the stories, the movements, and the Scriptures. Without planning it, I found myself living these letters. I wrote them. I prayed them. I sang them. I moved through them. I watched the Lord bring all these different expressions together into one unfolding reality.

One Letter at a time

Today Aleph-Bet is much more than a collection of stories, songs, or workshops. It has become one unfolding experience of the Narrow Way. Every letter opens another encounter with Christ. Every story reveals another aspect of His work. Every song gives voice to faith. Every movement reminds us that the life of Christ is meant to be lived. And as each letter unfolds, everything leads us to the same place: Christ Himself, who brings us through the Cross and into the fullness of His life.
